The Monroe Bay Inn was originally built in 1905 by the Alexander Graham Bell family and was known as the Children’s Salt Air Home. Children in need were brought from Washington, D.C. to spend summers at the beach for a breath of fresh air and to rejuvenate their spirits. You will find the same restorative and invigorating environment during your stay at the Monroe Bay Inn. Enjoy comfortable rooms with private baths, full breakfast, and a relaxing atmosphere. We are here to make your stay a pleasant one.
The Inn is conveniently situated one block from Monroe Bay and three blocks from the Potomac River. Walk to the public beach, fish off the Municipal Pier, and go boating. Visit art galleries, distinctive shops, and dine at great restaurants. Enjoy live music on the beach and at nearby Tiki Bars. Visit many nearby historical sites, such as James Monroe's birthplace, George Washington’s birthplace, and Stratford Hall childhood home of Robert E. Lee. Visit local wineries for touring, tasting, and shopping.
Or just relax on the front porch or back patio.

Put your feet up on the front porch.
You'll love the glider!

Enjoy the roses on the sunny back patio.
